Patrick Gillett helped build one of Canada’s biggest rap-rock bands.

Patrick Gillett was in a Toronto music class when he and Tyler Armes started the band that became Down with Webster — the rap-rock act behind “Whoa Is Me,” “Your Man” and a decade of Canadian chart hits.

Gillett is a co-founder of the band and one of its front-line voices, credited with guitar, rap vocals and lead vocals. Down with Webster came together in 1998 out of a music class at Glen Ames Senior Public School in the Beaches, signed to Universal Motown in 2009, and spent the next several years as a fixture of Canadian radio and the MuchMusic Video Awards.

Down with Webster never sat cleanly in one lane — rap over rock over pop, built for a festival crowd. Gillett’s role sits right at that seam: the guitar that makes it a band and a vocal that trades off with the rappers. It is the kind of versatility that keeps an act working across “Rich Girl$,” “Your Man,” “Whoa Is Me” and “Chills,” each a different flavour of the same DNA.

From the Beaches to a reunion — and DGTL Season 1

The band paused, then came roaring back: Down with Webster reunited in 2024 and released new singles including “Okae” and “All Night” in 2025. Gillett has also worked beyond the group — co-founding the electronic-pop project Honors and appearing on Fake Shark’s 2025 single “I’m With Stupid.” He is part of DGTL Season 1, the creative community around the original DGTL Toronto studio at 487 Adelaide St. West; DGTL is featuring his work and pointing to the band’s official channels below.

A band that co-headlined the Canadian charts, went quiet, and chose to come back on its own terms is a rare thing — and Gillett has been at the centre of it from the first music-class rehearsal to the reunion stage.
